The raw data systemVanalytics uses comes from several publicly
available sources and from data collected by the system. Much of the statistics
shown are calculated from several datapoints giving a deeper analysis of player
and team performance.
Currently the website analytics are updated once per week, but we will increase the frequency of updates as we move forward.
We see several audiences for the website from fans keeping up to date with their favorite teams. Parents following their kid’s development plus watching video clips of those all-important goals. To players, coaches and scouts tracking and comparing player and team performances.
A couple of points to touch on. Mostly when people talk about hockey stats what they mean is just the raw data of who scored or took a penalty. This is slim pickings and tells us little about anything. Even when someone goes to the trouble of compiling additional data, it’s often shown as a table of numbers. Now tables full of numbers have their place, but they are often not the easiest to understand. The analytics system of systemVanalytics takes the raw data, compares, combines, and extrapolates information to tell us more about how players and teams perform. We then make it easier to understand by visualizing the information using graphics.
There are several, but let’s look at one called Contribution. Contribution is an enhanced analytic that the systemVanalytics system extrapolates from combining many raw data points. It is designed to measure What a player did, When they did it and who they did it against. As you can see Contribution is complex and takes time to calculate, but gives us a better insight into how both players and teams are performing.
Video clips on the website are attached to teams, players and events and come from two sources. People registered on the website can upload video clips. This is simple to do and available to anyone. The clips are reviewed by us before they are posted on the website. The second way is to use the systemVanalytics video module to automate the capture of video clips during games. The video module will be available to purchase Q4 2022.
Tracking players show us where a player is at any given point in a game. This data enables a rich set of enhanced analytics to be produced, providing a depth of performance information to the player and coach. For example, automated player + / - when a goal is scored, ice time, player shift length, line ice time and shift length to name just a few. Player tracking has been designed to integrate with the video module and analytics website. Together they provide players, coaches and parents with the ability to measure and develop player and team performance.
